Many people do not know that my graduate school work was done in not-for-profit management and public policy study. It was a macro degree to add to my clinical undergrad work. My passion for social justice and women’s rights runs in my blood. I have always been a women’s advocate as a social worker, a coach, and a woman fighting for my rights in a society that has not always been favorable to such.
March 8, 2025, we come together once more to celebrate International Women’s Day with a theme: For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment. It is not just a slogan—it’s a call. A call for a world where every woman and girl has the right to thrive, the ability to lead, and the opportunity to shape her future.
Why This Theme Matters
Let’s be real—yes, progress has been made, but we are nowhere near done. Women and girls globally are still systematically excluded, discriminated against, and subjected to violence that bars them from achieving their full potential. Equal pay? We’re still fighting. Access to education, healthcare, and leadership opportunities? Still fighting. If we’re serious about change, we must do more than just talk about it—we must act.
This year’s theme points to the word ALL—because when we fight for women’s rights, we must fight for all women, everywhere. And that means we must speak out on behalf of women of all racial backgrounds, abilities, sexual orientations, and economic statuses. No woman is left behind in the pursuit of justice and equality.
How We Can Unlock Rights, Power, and Opportunities
Here’s the thing: the system isn’t going to change unless we change it. That means all of us—every one of us, individually and collectively—getting up, getting loud, and doing the work. Here are a few ways that we can:
Support Women-Owned Businesses & Organizations
Invest your dollars where your dollars are. Find and support women-owned businesses, nonprofits, and initiatives.
Advocate for Policy Changes
Advocate for women’s rights legislation and policy—whether equal pay, reproductive freedom, or anti-gender violence.
Mentor; Elevate Other Women
At work, in the community, and in life, sponsorship and mentoring are breakthroughs to growth and leadership.
Educate & Call Out Biases
Unlearn the social conditioning that confines us in stale gender roles. Engage in hard conversations. Hold others (and yourself) accountable.
Show Up & Act
Attend events, protests, and discussions that focus on gender equality. Spread awareness. Join movements that work towards real, systemic change.
A Feminist Future Where No One Is Left Behind
A feminist world isn’t just about women—it’s about creating a world that is just, equal, and fair for all. When women thrive, societies thrive. Economies grow. Families and communities thrive. And most importantly, generations to come get a world where they are seen, valued, and empowered.
So this International Women’ s Day, let’s commit to more than celebration. Let’s commit to action. Let’s fight for policies, speak out, and demand change that ensures every woman and girl—wherever she is from and what barriers she faces—has the rights, power, and opportunities she deserves.
Because when we say: “For ALL women and girls”, we damn well mean it.
