Reclamation Point: Dr. Traci Arends on Faith, Divorce, and Coming Fully Alive

Christy Belz welcomes Dr. Traci Arends, founder of She Fully Alive — Air Force veteran, educator, wellness coach, and spiritual director. Traci grew up in Montana, the granddaughter of homesteaders and daughter of a single mom, with a WWII father she never really knew but always wanted to make proud. That longing took her to the Air Force, where she discovered she was more of a leader than she ever gave herself credit for. She then had to make one of the hardest calls of her life when a remote deployment meant leaving her newborn daughter behind. She chose her daughter. She went back to school, built a career in education, got married — and twenty years later, watched that marriage end and her faith community quietly disappear at the same time. What she found on the other side of all of it was a PhD, a whole-person wellness framework for women, and a piece of her great-grandparents’ original Montana homestead she recently bought back. She’s calling it Reclamation Point.

Key Takeaways

  • What You Don’t Repair, You Repeat: Patterns don’t go away on their own. Traci’s work is built around helping women find the awareness to actually break them.
  • Transformation Starts With a Breaking Point: Her research on transformational learning shows that disorienting moments — divorce, loss, major transitions — are often the entry point, not just something to survive.
  • Openness Is the Deciding Factor: Two people can go through the exact same thing and land in completely different places. The difference isn’t the circumstance. It’s the willingness to look inward.
  • Whole-Person Health Isn’t a Trend: Mental, emotional, physical, spiritual — Traci’s framework treats these as inseparable. Neglecting one affects all the others.
  • You Have to Get to Know Yourself First: A thread running through Traci’s entire journey — military, divorce, spiritual direction, PhD. All of it kept pointing her back to the same question: who are you, really?
